What consideration has the Welsh Government given to moving ahead with the Deposit Return Scheme in line with the rest of United Kingdom and leave glass for a future discussions with the relevant administrations?
Glass is included in The Deposit Scheme for Drinks Containers (Wales) Regulations which were made in March 2026. Those Regulations are therefore now in law and reflect the overwhelming outcome of the earlier public consultations and the scope required to deliver benefits against Wales’ already high recycling performance for all in scope materials.
To achieve the launch of the scheme in October 2027 in parallel with the schemes in the rest of the UK as called for by industry, necessitates the implementation of the scheme in line with the regulations passed by the Senedd.
