How will the success of the national lung screening programme for Wales be measured?

Answered by Cabinet Minister for Health and Care | Answered on 18/08/2026

Public Health Wales measures the success of its screening programmes through a combination of coverage and uptake rates, programme standards and quality indicators, and health outcomes. Ultimately, the success of the National Targeted Lung Cancer Screening Programme will be measured by its ability to safely and effectively detect lung cancer at an earlier stage, improve patient outcomes, and support smoking cessation, while encouraging high and equitable uptake across Wales.
