How is the Welsh Government working with schools, colleges and employers to ensure that young people leave education with the skills needed by family-owned businesses?

To prepare children for work, the Curriculum for Wales includes critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and innovation.

It also seeks to develop strong literacy and numeracy skills, including financial literacy, that are vital across all sectors. Our new Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Plan will support higher standards, stronger teaching and improved learner attainment.

Careers and work-related experiences within the curriculum, together with Careers Wales and local employer engagement activity, help learners explore opportunities from an early age to develop their future aspirations.

Our First 100 Days commitments include a Future Skills Summit, alongside a comprehensive Skills Audit to build a clearer picture of current and future workforce needs across Wales. This will help align education, employment and training pathways with Wales’ skills priorities and the needs of employers, including family-owned businesses.
