What processes are in place to proactively monitor whether Senedd-funded support staff, IT infrastructure, and parliamentary allowances are being used by Members of the Senedd to produce regular political content for external commercial media publications, and has any compliance advice has been issued regarding the recently announced monthly Plaid Cymru column by the National?

Answered by Senedd Commission | Answered on 08/07/2026

Members are personally responsible for complying with the Rules and Guidance on use of Senedd Resources, as required by the Code of Conduct, and that responsibility extends to work done by their staff.

Members are the employers of their staff and must ensure they and their staff act within both the Code and the Rules.

The Commission ICT service backs-up digital transactions and would comply with any investigations using the detailed reporting facility available to it, should an electronic audit trail be requested by the Police, Electoral Commission or Standards Commissioner.
