What steps will the Cabinet Minister take to progress the national body for youth work?
Following the publication of the statutory framework for youth work in March 2026, work is underway to explore the role and remit for a National Body for Youth Work in Wales.
The statutory framework requires local authorities to develop five-year strategic plans, the first of which are due for submission to Welsh Government in September 2026. To support implementation of this requirement, my officials are working closely with local authorities and partners in the voluntary sector.
A Delivery Board was established in late 2025, with representation from across the youth work sector, to provide leadership, challenge and advice to Welsh Government on the development of a National Body for Youth Work. Early engagement with wider stakeholders, including young people, is also underway.
