How will the Government work with local authorities and other associated agencies to ensure the Armed Forces Covenant is fulfilled in Wales?
This Government is committed to upholding the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant and ensuring fair access to services including healthcare, housing, employment, and education, skills and training for veterans and their families. We are working with local authorities and other associated agencies to raise awareness and understanding of the Armed Forces Covenant.
We are in contact with the Ministry of Defence within UK Government as they develop plans through the Armed Forces Bill 2026 to broaden the Armed Forces Covenant including placing a legal duty of due regard for the Covenant on Welsh Government. We are raising awareness and understanding of the Armed Forces Covenant and how it will impact Welsh Government and across the Armed Forces community in Wales. We are also in contact with the Ministry of Defence as they develop plans for the Statutory Guidance to accompany the anticipated new legislation.
