Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm that no Wales Air Ambulance bases will close until additional road vehicles for mid Wales are deployed, as agreed by the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee following their decision to permanently close air ambulance bases in Welshpool and Caernarfon?
Decisions about base facilities are made by the Wales Air Ambulance Charity.
The NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (JCC) is responsible, on behalf of health boards, for commissioning emergency ambulance services from the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust.
The trust is carrying out a review of how emergency ambulance services operate in rural areas, which will help shape updated JCC proposals for Mid Wales including how service models are adapted to align with the revised National Emergency Ambulance Services Performance Framework, which emphasises patient outcomes and clinical needs.
This will be central to developing a refreshed proposal in relation to recommendation four. The JCC has been clear this will be considered alongside the development of its annual plan for 2026–27.
