What discussions has the Welsh Government held with the UK Government on the £10 million Travel Fund for young cancer patients announced alongside England’s National Cancer Plan, and will this support be available to patients in Wales, particularly those receiving treatment in England?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 24/02/2026

This announcement applies to England only.

There is an existing all-Wales means-tested scheme for people to recover their travel costs for accessing consultant-led treatment, irrespective of the clinical condition. This scheme applies to people in Wales who need to travel to England to receive treatment.

The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust provides a non-emergency patient transport service for people to attend oncology appointments if they are unable to make their own way.
