What assessment has the Welsh Government made of whether the current NHS dental allocation is sufficient to meet demand throughout the full financial year?

We want to reach a position where everyone who wants to access NHS dental care will be able to do so.

The introduction of the Dental Access Pathway (DAP) in February 2025 is informing service provision and providing a clear picture of how many people want routine dental care but do not currently have a relationship with an NHS dental practice.

Together with the DAP, the implementation of the new dental contract in April 2026, which reorientates service provision on the basis of risk and healthcare need to create more capacity, are the first steps we are taking to put us in a position where we can assess the sufficiency of NHS dental provision.
