Will the Cabinet Secretary provide a timeline for the opening of new AI growth zones in Wales?
The AI Growth Zones, as specified by UK Government, at their core have been created to realise significant AI compute infrastructure through Data Centre investment by 2030.
Since the North and South Wales AI Growth Zones (AIGZs) were announced in November 2025, the Welsh Government has been finalising plans and initiatives and continues to work closely with the UK Government to ensure maximum benefits from the AI Growth Zones for wider economic and societal gain.
The Welsh Government’s ambitious plans, focussed on the two AI Growth Zone areas, will seek to broaden their impact pan-Wales. Planned activities will drive growth of the AI sector in Wales, create focussed AI innovation, as well as R&D and AI skills opportunities, and result in wider adoption of AI by both private and public sector in Wales.
As discussions between the Welsh and UK governments are finalised in the months ahead, we will be able to announce more detail as they emerge.
