Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on how they are working with local authorities to ensure that culverts and drains are cleared from debris?
Risk Management Authorities (RMA) are responsible for managing flood risk in their areas.
This year, we have made over £77 million available to RMAs across Wales to invest in flood alleviation schemes, with £4.95 million revenue allocated as part of the Revenue Support Grant (RSG). The RSG can be used for public awareness campaigns, warning systems and maintaining local authority flood risk management assets.
Local authorities work closely with riparian owners to help ensure they are aware of – and meet – their responsibilities for maintaining watercourses. This includes promoting understanding of riparian duties in relation to the upkeep of watercourses, including culverts and the removal of debris, through guidance, advice and engagement.
