Further to WQ97825, will the Cabinet Secretary list the conditions relating to the grants provided?
The amount claimed and paid to Aston Martin, along with the conditions attached, is as follows:
Business Development – RBF - £5.8m
- Capital expenditure of £112m
- 595 jobs created
- Conditions attached until 2030 so subject to clawback if not met
Business Development – RD&I - £11.5m
- R&D spend £46m
- No jobs attached
- Out of monitoring period so not subject to clawback
Training Grant - £0.6m
- Paid against eligible training costs as incurred by Aston Martin
- Not subject to clawback.
As with all Welsh Government grants to support investment and employment, the £5.8m grant to Aston Martin has conditions attached that include employment levels for a set period. In situations where these conditions are not met, Welsh Government take into account the circumstances that have led to the underperformance, and the prospects for recovery in job numbers in the future, as well as safeguarding public funds.
Officials will start that process with the company in the new year when all consultations have closed and we have a clearer picture of the job numbers at St Athan.
