Will the Welsh Government commit to a review of the Welsh immunisation system, and its suitability post-COVID?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 18/12/2025

As we continue to develop the Welsh Immunisation System, we are committed to working with partners in the NHS, including primary care and Digital Health and Care Wales to ensure we learn lessons. This includes improving the delivery of vaccinations to the public and the system supporting delivery.

Vaccines used in Wales are centrally procured either by the UK Government or by Welsh Government. There are no plans to move away from this model.

Learning from the pandemic highlighted the clear advantages to centrally procuring supply for seasonal vaccination programmes. This includes more equitable access to vaccinations, opportunities to drive improvements in vaccine uptake, reduced vaccine wastage and more cost-effective delivery.
