Will the Cabinet Secretary provide details of nature-based flood management projects funded by the Welsh Government in Flintshire, Denbighshire, and wider north Wales?
The Welsh Government has been actively supporting and promoting Natural Flood Management (NFM) through 100% grant funding across Wales since 2020. In that time a total of £7.6m has been allocated throughout Wales and over £5m to projects in North Wales.
For the latest funding round of £2m (April 2025 – March 2026), 23 projects are underway across the country, designed to enhance the natural environment while reducing flood risk for up to 2,800 properties. Of these 23, 15 projects are being delivered in North Wales, including £680,000 in Flintshire and £430,000 in Denbighshire, helping communities become more resilient to flooding.
The projects are aiming to deliver a mix of different interventions, such as leaky dams, wetlands, woodland creation and attenuation features.
