What support does the Welsh Government provide to older people with booking doctor appointments online?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 17/11/2025

The Welsh Government is committed to ensuring that digital innovation in primary care benefits everyone, including older people. The NHS Wales App is being developed to enable patients to book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, and access coded GP information.

Digital access will always sit alongside offline alternatives, such as telephone and in-person booking, to ensure that improvements do not widen inequalities, which affect older people.

In line with our Access Standards, practices are required to collect patient feedback and use this to develop an access improvement plan, taking account of how they have engaged with patients.

There is targeted support for older people through the Digital Communities Wales programme, which delivers tailored digital skills training and support to older people, and communications campaigns to raise awareness of digital inclusion.
