What action is the Welsh Government taking to promote a career in logistics to young people?
Careers Wales actively promote careers in the logistics industry through its Personal Learning Accounts programme which enables people over the age of 19 to upskill and reskill in priority sectors, with logistics being a priority sector. There are numerous skills initiatives beyond this available to businesses in the freight and logistics sector - these include ReAct+, the Flexible Skills Programme and apprenticeships. The Welsh Governments Automotive, Transport and Logistics apprenticeships framework is designed to develop the knowledge and skills and to provide the occupational competence for people who work within the sectors. This Framework includes foundation apprenticeships, apprenticeships and higher apprenticeships. The Minister for Further and Higher Education recently set out the Welsh Government’s ambitions for Vocational Education and Training (VET) learning in a Written Statement made in June. Written Statement: Written Statement: Update on Vocational Education and Training (26 June 2025) | GOV.WALES. We will ensure that vocational education, training and skills respond to employer needs and contribute to the delivery of green jobs as part of developing the Freight and Logistics, Port and Maritime Plan for Wales working closely with industry to align with this strategy and across Welsh Government.
