Is the Welsh Government on track to opening all 60 of the new Welsh-medium nursery groups set out in Cymraeg 2050?
Mudiad Meithrin is set to exceed its target of supporting 60 provisions through the Sefydlu a Symud/Set up and Succeed (SaS) programme during this current Senedd term. The latest figures show that 52 provisions have already been supported to open or expand, with an additional 19 projects currently under development. This achievement follows Mudiad's successful completion of its initial target of supporting 40 provisions during the first three years of the SaS programme, bringing the total to 92 provisions supported since 2018.
The SaS programme includes support for expanding existing provisions in addition to establishing new provisions. This has resulted in nearly 1,400 children being registered at provisions supported through SaS in 2024-25; this figure will increase when the latest annual data is published in November.
