Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the St Clears railway station project?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales | Answered on 15/07/2025

The estimated cost of delivering a new station at St. Clears doubled from the original £6m forecast. The original forecast formed the basis for the business case for proposed new station and for it to receive partial delivery funding within the UK Government’s New Station Fund. Given the scale of the delivery cost increase it was not possible for the delivery of the new station to proceed. However, a new station at St Clears is within the Wales Rail Board priority list of schemes for future delivery. Transport for Wales are keeping the project under review ready to coordinate with other major local developments should delivery funding become available, noting that rail infrastructure such as a new station at St Clears remains a reserved matter for the UK Government.
