Has the Welsh Government decided to fund a new super school in Mold?
The reorganisation of Catholic Education Provision is included in Flintshire’s nine-year plan under the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme. However, I can confirm that no formal funding decisions have been made at this time.
This proposal by Flintshire County Borough Council is the subject of an active statutory consultation, in line with the School Organisation Code (2018). The outcome of this statutory consultation will be instrumental in defining the project scope of any future investment proposal we may receive.
As with all projects under the Programme, the award of Welsh Government funding is dependent on the successful submission and approval of a three-stage business case, assessed through our robust evaluation process.
As a voluntary aided school, should the project proceed and be approved it would be eligible for Welsh Government funding of up to 85%, with the remaining 15% funded by the school’s governing body or diocese. This remaining contribution may be supported by the local authority at its discretion.
The Welsh Government remains committed to working in partnership with all stakeholders to ensure that any future investment continues to support sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality learning environments for learners across Wales.
