What is the Welsh Government doing to combat vaccine disinformation?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 19/06/2025

As referenced in the National Immunisation Framework, the Welsh Government, Public Health Wales and NHS Wales are working hard to develop clear, consistent and robust messaging to support public understanding of the importance of vaccination. This includes work to dispel any myths and inaccuracies reported.

Public Health Wales is responsible for the development of core materials, using factual and evidence-based messages, whilst acting as a trusted voice to provide accurate information and raise awareness of the benefits of vaccination.

Monitoring systems are in place to detect and combat the circulation of vaccine disinformation in a timely way, in line with guidance from the Government Communication Service. Where a significant issue is identified, the cross-system Social Listening and Misinformation Working Group convenes to review the content and identify if action is required on a proactive or reactive basis.
