What is the Welsh Government doing in order to protect and preserve the Blackweir part of Bute Park ahead of several events to be held by Live Nation?

Answered by Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership | Answered on 12/05/2025

Cardiff Council is responsible for managing the park and can veto events if they are unsuitable. Blackweir Fields are part of the exceptional grade I (one) registered historic park and garden at Cardiff Castle and Bute Park which is one of the largest urban parks in the country. Cadw is liaising with Cardiff Council to ensure that the events respect the outstanding special interest of the historic park. On Cadw’s advice, Cardiff Council is preparing a heritage impact assessment (HIA) to ensure that the park is not unduly compromised, and independent arboricultural specialists and ecologists are advising the Council to ensure the events go ahead within appropriate parameters.
