What consideration has the Cabinet Secreatry given to Tŷ Hafan and Tŷ Gobaith’s call for statutory funding to cover 25 per cent of children’s hospice care costs by Children’s Hospice Week in June 2025?

The Welsh Government recognises the vital contribution hospices make to supporting families.

Approximately £700k of the additional £3m recurrent funding for Welsh hospices in the 2025-26 Budget is allocated to Ty Hafan and Ty Gobaith, the two children’s hospices in Wales. This equates to a 7% uplift to their staffing costs in 2024-25, and follows the £9.5m cost-of-living grants provided to Welsh hospices over the last two years.

We are working with the Joint Commissioning Committee, the National Programme for Palliative and End-of-Life Care and Welsh hospices to develop a hospice commissioning framework for Wales. It will be implemented from April 2026 and will meet the needs of adult and children’s hospices and create a more sustainable financial model for hospices in the longer term.
