What action has the Cabinet Secretary taken to promote tourism in north Wales ahead of the Easter holiday?
Visit Wales promotes tourism to north Wales, encouraging visits in the Easter holidays - and at all times of the year - through targeted campaigns, a wide range of web and social media content, and PR and media activity, often delivered with stakeholder partners.
The Hwyl campaign, which has been active since late December and is currently running in the build up to Easter, features north Wales. It includes adverts on TV and streaming, digital activity and media partnerships as well as comprehensive content on the Visit Wales website. In addition, a vital part of communications with visitors is Visit Wales’ social media channels (with a following of 1.8 million) that regularly feature businesses and destinations across north Wales.
North Wales is also being promoted in the “Starring Great Britain” campaign, launched at the end of January. Visit Wales has partnered with VisitBritain to showcase iconic Welsh locations that have featured in TV and films, and the campaign includes scenes from HBO’s House of the Dragon, filmed in north Wales.
Media press trips and outreach to key contacts are core to our delivery and north Wales continues to feature heavily in that work. In recent weeks north Wales has featured in articles internationally, as well as domestically, for example, Le Figaro in France and Sunday Times in Australia.
Visit Wales also promotes north Wales to the travel trade. As well as B2B relationships throughout the year, Visit Wales attends high profile events; in 2025 this has already included Britain and Ireland Marketplace (BIM), a major international business-to-business event in London, and exhibiting and meeting international operators and media with VisitBritain at ITB Berlin.
