Will the Cabinet Secretary provide the current list of priority projects for investment that have been agreed by the Wales Rail Board?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales | Answered on 25/03/2025

The Wales Rail Board have identified that the rail recommendations of the North Wales Transport Commission and South East Wales Transport Commission are the priority projects for delivery. These include resolving the capacity constraints at Chester station, delivering the infrastructure enhancements necessary on the Wrexham to Liverpool line to enable a two trains per hour service, and five new stations on the South Wales Main Line between Cardiff and the Severn Tunnel alongside the necessary relief line enhancements. These are the immediate priorities within a pipeline of infrastructure enhancements that the Wales Rail Board has developed and endorsed. We are working closely with the UK Government to finalise this pipeline.
