What is the purpose of the community support and safety BEL line, and will the Cabinet Secretary provide a full breakdown of the spending projects for it in the 2025-26 final budget?
The purpose of the budget is supporting funding for Police Community Support Officers.
Although policing is a reserved area, we have continued our long tradition of funding PCSOs in Wales to complement the wider policing settlement forces receive. Following the publication of the final budget 2025-26, I can confirm we have committed £50,000 which we have set aside for research activity on the impact of PCSOs and £15.95m to fund PCSOs.
This represents a continuity of our funding from 2024-25, plus an additional 3% to support stability in staffing levels. This funding is for the four forces in Wales and for British Transport Police.
