What transport solution will be put in place to ensure students living in Talerddig and Carno can travel to Ysgol Bro Hyddgen between 17 March and 2 April following Network Rail's announcement that there will be a 16-day rail closure in place on the Cambrian rail line?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales | Answered on 20/02/2025

We are working closely with Powys County Council to ensure that suitable alternative transport provision is provided for students during Network Rail’s planned closure of the Cambrian Line. We understand people’s concerns and are working with all our partners to minimise disruption. Unfortunately, the joint closures of the A470 and rail network between Machynlleth and Newtown are unavoidable on this occasion due to the temporary nature of the repair carried out on the retaining wall at Talerddig and the urgent need to ensure the future resilience of the Strategic Road Network, along with contractual obligations on the rail network.
