Will the Welsh Government encourage local authorities affected by storms Darragh and Bert to provide free parking to support businesses in the run up to Christmas?
It is for local authorities to determine whether providing free car parking is part of their approach to local economic development. Authorities may use core un-hypothecated funding and their own resources to do so, according to their local priorities.
We recognise the toll these storms place on communities and businesses. Money has been set aside this year (2024-25) in the region of £10 million, which can be mobilised to meet the costs of responding to storms Bert and Darragh. This includes grants of £500 to those whose homes were flooded or unusable as a result.
