Will the voices of neighbours have an appropriate place in the proposed short-term holiday let licensing Bill?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Welsh Language | Answered on 16/12/2024

We are working to develop licensing legislation and are committed to bringing forward a bill before the end of this Senedd term.

Through powers provided by the Senedd, local authorities have the option of introducing planning controls to deal with the local impact of new holiday lets in residential properties. They also have powers to support residents with noise complaints and general nuisance, particularly where there is significant local concern. This allows neighbours’ voices to be heard and considered on the use of properties as short-term holiday lets.

Local authorities are best place to understand and to respond to such concerns and, a result, we are not proposing to include community or resident consultation as part of a national licensing process.
