What steps is the Welsh Government taking to improve the condition of roads throughout Wales?
A total of nearly £200 million pounds is being invested in the strategic road network across Wales in financial year 2024/25 for maintenance activities and the transport department of Welsh Government have awarded Local Authorities over £100 million pounds this financial year to invest in local transport projects.
The Welsh Government also provides grant funding to local authorities to invest in road projects through our Resilient Roads Fund.
This transport funding for the Local Authorities is in addition to the unhypothecated revenue funding of more than £5.72 billion to support local authorities in delivering statutory and non-statutory services this financial year 2024/25. Decisions made on the provision of local services are for local authorities to decide within the relevant statutory requirements and in line with local priorities.
Local Authorities also have additional funding, outside of the settlement of over £1.3 billion in specific revenue grants and almost £980 million capital grants in 2024-25.
