Is the Welsh Government satisfied with existing road networks across Wales?
Our Wales Transport Strategy sets out the importance of making the best use of our existing transport infrastructure by maintaining and managing it well. We have acknowledged that there is a backlog of road repairs, both at national and local level, and understand the scale of the problem in all areas of Wales. The First Minister has made connecting communities one of the four priorities for Welsh Government, including fixing our roads.
Following an independent review last year we have developed a new asset management policy and strategy for the Strategic Road Network which will ensure we invest in maintenance and improvement where it is most needed. We also provide grant funding to local authorities to invest in road projects through our Resilient Roads Fund.
