Our funding to Sport Wales is supporting a range of initiatives aimed at increasing participation by younger people, including the Unleash your Drive programme which operates in schools and acts as a catalyst for engaging young people with the sport, and encouraging girls-only winter clinics to ensure girls do not drop out of the sport during this period and build of confidence of girls engaged in these centres to enter summer tournaments.
The AIG Women’s Open due to be held at Royal Porthcawl next year has the potential to offer a legacy impact for young people in Wales by increasing the visibility of golf, encouraging new players to start playing, and even igniting a desire to compete at a high level.
