How many people from Hong Kong are living in Wales on the British National (Overseas) visa and how many are aged between 15 and 25?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Trefnydd and Chief Whip | Answered on 28/11/2024

The Welsh Government does not hold data relating to the number of Hong Kong British National (Overseas) visa holders living in Wales, irrespective of the age range requested. The UK Government visa application process did not ask applicants to state their intended destination within the UK so there is currently no reliable way to determine how many people from Hong Kong are living in Wales on the British National (Overseas) visa.

However, the Welsh Government recognises the importance of supporting individuals and families who have settled in Wales under the BNO visa scheme. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone, including those from Hong Kong.

Efforts are underway to engage with local authorities, community organisations, and key stakeholders, such as the Wales Strategic Migration Partnership, to gain insights into the demographics and needs of BNO visa holders in Wales
