How has the Welsh Government worked to improve recruitment and retention in the psychiatry workforce?

The Strategic Mental Health Workforce Plan, published in November 2022, was developed by Health Education and Improvement Wales and Social Care Wales. The plan sets out actions to help achieve a sustainable mental health workforce, including specific actions to increase the workforce over the short, medium and long term.
Work is ongoing to increase the number of psychiatrists in training, and we are providing opportunities for international psychiatrists.
