What consideration did the Welsh Government give to creating an investment zone in Anglesey and Gwynedd, concentrating on the shores of the Menai Straits, especially considering the presence of Bangor University and the strength of the creative industries in the area?
The UK Government and the Welsh Government co-developed a bespoke approach to identifying Investment Zones areas in Wales to reflect Wales’s specific policy, governance and economic landscape. The details of this place selection methodology have been published on the UK Government website:
Based on a joint assessment by both governments against the criteria in the place selection methodology, the strongest two areas to host an Investment Zone in Wales were identified as the Cardiff and Newport travel to work area (delivered by the South East Wales CJC), and the Wrexham and Flintshire travel to work area (delivered by the North Wales CJC).
