What steps is the Welsh Government taking to provide accessible Welsh lessons for home-educated children in north west Wales?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education | Answered on 11/11/2024

Parents choosing to home educate their children, have a duty to secure suitable and efficient education as set out in section 7 of the Education Act 1996. This could include the provision of Welsh for their children.

Our statutory elective home education (EHE) guidance is clear that parents who choose to home-educate their children must be prepared to assume full financial responsibility.

Our  handbook for home educators highlights examples of Welsh language support available for home educating families, some of which is free to access. The handbook also references a wider package of support that my officials have developed in partnership with local authorities.
