Does the Welsh Government know a) how many freelancers work in creative industries; b) what they earn; and c) and how much creative freelancers contribute to the Welsh GDP, given that in 2020 the lack of knowledge about freelancers meant that the pandemic hit freelancers uniquely hard?

The Welsh Government was pleased to be able to provide rapid direct support to the self-employed creative community during the pandemic through our freelancer funds of over £15m.

Whilst this segment of the workforce is changeable, a report published by Clwstwr in 2022, gives estimates on the number of freelancers working in the creative industries in Wales.

The Cultural Freelancers Wales 2023 report findings give annual income levels for a cultural freelancers.

Creative Wales also collects data and information on freelancers through its annual industry survey. The latest report from 2023 is published on the Welsh Government website.
