What has the Welsh Government done to educate people on when they should and should not attend accident and emergency departments?
The Welsh Government’s national ‘Help us, Help You’ campaign promotes a range of local NHS services that are available for those with urgent care needs - without needing to go to their GP or emergency department. This includes promoting the role of minor injury units, pharmacies, and NHS 111 Wales online.
Campaign evaluation covering the winter 2022/23 campaign (November to February) shows over 96% of adults in Wales were reached via the campaign and had the opportunity to see or hear advertising at least 21 times.
The 2024/25 campaign will begin on 15 November and will target a mass audience with continued messaging around getting the right care, in the right place. Featuring heavily in the first burst of advertising (November and December) will be messaging around only using A&E/999 in an emergency and promoting the use of all appropriate alternatives.
