Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the bluetongue virus in Wales?

Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs | Answered on 07/11/2024

Official surveillance has concluded in Gwynedd and Ynys Môn, following two instances where infected animals were moved into the area. These infected animals were identified by APHA through the tracing of animal movements from the Restricted Zone in England. Follow up testing has found no evidence of onward transmission or local circulation of the virus. I can therefore confirm that Bluetongue restrictions have been lifted from both affected farms in Wales.

I will publish a Written Statement later this week with more details.
