Does the Welsh Government, working with the Welsh Local Government Association, intend to provide teachers access to a salary sacrifice scheme to purchase a new, environmentally friendly car?

In order for local authorities or governing bodies to be able to offer a valid salary sacrifice scheme, such a scheme would need to be referred to specifically within section 2 of the School Teachers Pay and Conditions (Wales) Document (STPC(W)D).

The STPC(W)D is updated each year through the making of a Pay Order, following the annual pay process. Welsh Government takes a partnership approach to pay and conditions in which a tripartite group, the Pay Partnership Forum (PPF), agree a remit for the Independent Welsh Pay Review Body (IWPRB), who make recommendations for any changes to the STPC(W)D. Members of the PFF are consulted on any recommended changes which are then implemented by Welsh Government. Teaching unions and the Welsh Local Government Association are members of the PPF which could remit the IWPRB to consider the inclusion of a salary sacrifice scheme in the STPC(W)D.
