Why is the anticipation of displacement not included in the Climate Adaptation Strategy For Wales, given the increasing understanding that climate change will displace many people from their homes in Wales and beyond?

Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs | Answered on 29/10/2024

We recognise there may be risks of displacement arising from climate-related impacts, in Wales, the UK and internationally. We will continue to work to support communities affected by climate-related impacts in Wales. Our flood and coastal erosion risk management framework is summarised within the Strategy.

The Climate Change Committee’s (CCC) most recent statutory UK Climate Change Risk Assessment Independent Advice (CCRA3-IA) considered the risks and opportunities to the UK of climate-related international mobility. We will continue to work with the CCC and the UK Government to consider any emerging evidence on the risks and opportunities arising from international climate-related migration.
