When does the Cabinet Secretary anticipate that all unsafe cladding in Wales will be removed or remediated?
In relation to Aluminium Composite Materials (ACM) cladding, which was the material that clad the Grenfell Tower, this was found and removed on 15 buildings across Wales.
Our remediation programme, the Welsh Building Safety Programme, adopts a whole building approach to fire safety and is not focused solely on cladding. As both internal and external fire safety issues are considered, the numbers included below relate to any fire safety issue present.
As each building is unique and often complex, investigation and planning are essential to ensure the right solutions are being identified for each individual building. I therefore cannot provide a timescale for the completion of each individual remediation project. However, we are working with developers and managing agents to ensure works are progressing as quickly as possible and any barriers are overcome swiftly.
As outlined in our latest Welsh Building Safety Programme newsletter, there are currently 407 buildings in the programme. Works have been completed on 67 buildings, works have started on 103 buildings and 7 buildings have been confirmed as not requiring works. Plans are in place for a further 151 buildings. We are awaiting further information on 79 buildings. These figures are subject to change as further buildings are identified.
The Welsh Government does not record data by Senedd constituency, instead this is categorised by Local Authority.
As stated above, of the 407 buildings in the Programme, 67 have been completed and seven do not require works. Of the 333 buildings remaining, these are summarised by Local Authority area below:
