What are the Welsh Government's plans to expand school uniform recycling schemes in Wales following the publication of the School uniform and appearance: policy guidance for governing bodies (WG23-17) guidelines?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education | Answered on 31/10/2024

The Welsh Government is committed to using every lever it can to help people with the cost-of-living. Uniform recycling schemes are an effective option to access lower cost uniforms for many families whilst also reducing our carbon footprint.

Officials are working with Children in Wales to develop a good practice guide for schools providing practical information in relation to the school uniform and appearance policy. This will assist schools in establishing their own successful uniform exchange schemes.

The guide will identify schools across Wales who have exemplary school uniform policies (from an affordability perspective) and who have great examples of established school uniform recycling schemes, including those with a high level of pupil participation.
