What action is Welsh Government taking to ensure that funding for armed forces veterans in line with the Armed Forces Covenant commitments is sufficient to ensure a level service across the UK?
The Welsh Government is committed to supporting the whole Armed Forces Community in Wales – Service People, Veterans and their families. We have a moral commitment to uphold the Armed Forces Covenant where it relates to devolved services such as health, housing, education and employment. We worked with the previous UK Government together with the Scottish Government to produce a UK Strategy for our Veterans 2018-28. Each nation developed its own action plan reflecting devolved delivery and funding arrangements but working to common principles. For Wales, this was conducted through a Veterans Scoping Exercise and its associated recommendations. I look forward to working with the new UK government in similar fashion, aligning where we can, but mindful that devolution may mean different approaches to work towards similar desired outcomes.
