What consideration has the Welsh Government given to moving away from play-based education?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education | Answered on 17/10/2024

Our guidance for learning in early years recognises the evidence that learning through play is a vital part of a child’s development. Play-based learning supports children to learn and understand the rules of social behaviour, but it is also fundamental to intellectual, physical, and creative development. The approach to play should be considered in the context of a range of developmentally appropriate pedagogical approaches and the expectations in the Curriculum for Wales.

We do not have plans to change this guidance, but as with all policies we continue to work with partners to review implementation and provision.
