What additional work is the Welsh Government undertaking to improve standards at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board so that it can be removed from special measures?
A special measures framework, including de-escalation criteria, was agreed between the Chief Executive of NHS Wales and the Chief Executive of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in May 2024.
The Welsh Government continues to work with the health board through the oversight and assurance arrangements. Targeted support has been commissioned from the NHS Executive to help the health board make the required improvements related to patient outcomes, performance, clinical fragile services and quality and safety in line with agreed national and clinical. This will ensure that the necessary systems and structures are in place and that improvements are sustainable.
