Abattoirs are a critical part of the rural economy here in Wales. The latest information on the Food and Drink economic appraisal is available here; Welsh Food and Drink Economic Appraisal - 2020 (gov.wales). The report highlights that the Welsh meat and meat products sector had a turnover of £1.7bn in 2023 and the sector employed 5,500 individuals in 2022. The Welsh Food and Drink Annual Export Bulletin 2023 (gov.wales) highlights that total value of exports for meat and meat products in 2023 was £280m.
