How is the Welsh Government working to bolster the child-health workforce in the Welsh NHS?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 30/09/2024

The Welsh Government has and will continue to invest in the workforce required to support our health service in Wales. £283.126m was invested in 2023-24 and this level was maintained in 2024-25. This will support education and training programmes for healthcare professionals in Wales.

This includes a 21% increase in child nursing training places and midwifery from 2022-23 to 2024-25 among many of the other professions which support child health within the NHS. Following the publication of the National Workforce Implementation Plan (NWIP) in January 2023, a set of targeted workforce plans have been published or are in development. These will improve the workforce capacity and capability to meet child health needs.
