Higher education is free at the point of entry as students are not required to pay any tuition fees upfront. The Welsh Government provides Welsh domiciled students with the most generous package of tuition fee and maintenance support in the UK. This is composed of grants and loans that are repaid when (currently) the income threshold of £27,295 is reached with any remaining balance written off 30 years after entering repayment. This reflects the balance of benefits of higher education to the individual and society. Our system of student support is kept under constant review.
