How does the Welsh Government support the redevelopment and reopening of St David's Hall given its national importance to Wales?
St David’s Hall, as the National Concert Hall of Wales, is one of our most prestigious cultural venues, with an exceptional 40-year history of supporting the arts. The Welsh Government would like to see it continue to welcome diverse performers and audiences to its unique surroundings.
Cardiff Council is responsible for the building. The Council has indicated that Academy Music Group (AMG) has completed a survey of the building and is preparing an application for the works. At this stage, the Council cannot estimate how long the works might take. That will be dependent on the work required, securing approval and the timelines AMG agree with its chosen contactor.
Under the arm’s-length funding principle all Welsh Government funding for the arts in Wales is channelled through the Arts Council of Wales. It is for ACW to determine how that funding is allocated.
