Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm what steps the Welsh Government is taking to spread awareness of trichotillomania, and what support people can access for the condition?
We routinely promote the way people can access services, including mental health support, through the Help us Help you campaign. This includes support such as the CALL helpline, online cognitive behavioural therapy, and information via health boards on how support can be accessed in their area.
Trichotillomania can be a complex and distressing condition. It is considered to be part of a spectrum of obsessive-compulsive disorders and not infrequently related to anxiety disorders. As such, people have access to support and treatment via their GP, Local Primary Mental Health Support Services, and online resources such as cognitive behavioural therapy. More complex presentation may require a specialist referral.
Our mental health and wellbeing strategy, when published, will include action to improve awareness of current support available.
